6/26/19 Bubbles and Big Reds
Charles Roux Brut Blanc de Blancs. Burgundy bubbler. This was made from 78% chardonnay and 22% aligote. The wine was dry, crisp and lively. Made using tank carbonation, the bubbles were plentiful on pouring but tamed quickly.
Verite 2014 - a bordeaux blend from Sonoma. 75% cabernet. Pierre Savant is the winemaker. Dark garnet color, French oak. Knight’s valley fruit. Small hand harvests with individual barrel fermentation with each harvest. Beautifully integrated tannins, cocoa, spice with less emphasis on fruit.
Cardinale 2015 Napa Cabernet. Chris Carpenter is the winemaker. The grapes used came from Howell Mountain, Mount Veeder, Spring Mountain and Diamond Mountain. 90% cabernet. 20 months in french oak, 84% of it new oak. Dark ruby color, textural tannins, black cassis, cedary notes and an absolute stunner.
Galerie Napa Cabernet. Probably my favorite of the day. This wine will be priced at less than $45 and at that price represents incredible value. Jiucy fruit, textural tannin, deep color and a gorgeous nose!
